Digital Signature Certificates

Certificates of digital signature are equivalent to physical or paper signatures. Digital signatures are indispensable. Trademark registration online requires a valuable electronic document.

Certain documents are required when applying for a trademark online. Digital Signature Certificates (DSCs) are among them. Using DSC for trademark applications is described below. Learn which DSC class is needed for trademark registration in the following paragraphs.

Digital Signature Certificates – What Is One?

If you’ve ever incorporated a business or filled out multiple compliance forms, you’ve come across the term Digital Signature Certificate. The encrypted signature of an electronic signature certificate is accompanied by a verifiable key. Each electronic filing requires this signature. It is a more secure, more reliable electronic signature.

The person filing a trademark application may use an existing Class 3 Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) and not need to obtain a new one.

How Is DSC Used In Trademark Registration?

According to the Information Technology (IT) Act of 2000, electronic documents must contain digital signatures to ensure their security and authenticity. A valid digital signature certificate is required in order to use the online trademark filing system.

A Class 3 Digital Signature Certificate is required as part of the electronic filing system. So, any individual, attorney, or agent wishing to register a trademark must first obtain a Class 3 DSC.

Having a Class 3 DSC is required to file a trademark application, so you should choose this one. Class 3 DSCs provide the highest level of security and are valid for about a year. After that, they need to be renewed.

Therefore, if you want to register a trademark on your own, you should apply for a DSC first. You can also register your trademark through Vakilsearch without a DSC Is Required For Trademark Registration

DSC Benefits

  • It is highly secure because it comes with encryption.
  • Privacy protects online information exchange.
  • Having verified and unalterable information gives users greater confidence and certainty.

Process Of Obtaining A Class 3 Digital Signature Certificate

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs grants digital certificates to public and private entities that have been licensed to grant them. These certificates can be obtained through Vakilsearch.

How Do DSCs Differ And How Should You Choose One?

DSCs fall into two categories. Among them are:

Class 1: These certificates are awarded after verifying that the subscriber’s information in the application does not conflict with any data from a well-known consumer database. When it comes to government agencies, they’re essentially just online proofs of identity.

Class 3: This DSC offers the highest level of protection since a person must present themselves before the Registration Authority (RA) to prove their identity, and only then will the DSC be approved.

The primary purpose of your digital signature certificate should be to register a trademark.

Aside from trademark applications, Class 3 DSCs can also be used for:

Tenders: A Class 3 DSC can be applied for online tenders, electronic auctions, and other financial events.

Service Providers: The Class 3 DSC is also available to agents booking tickets on behalf of individuals.
